About me

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined," remarked Mr. Henry David Thoreau.
I recall this quote because; it does have a lot to say in those few words about my journey, a journey that made me stand for, strive for my dreams and balance my personal ambitions.

My name is Sravani Vaddi and I am currently working as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Center for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR), Pune, India.  I recently completed my Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the Rochester of Institute and Technology (RIT), Rochester, NY.

I do observational astronomy and my research interests are studying a special class of galaxies known as Active Galactic Nuclei.  I study the co-evolution of black holes and star formation in these galaxies.

Although it sounds cliche, the Universe has fascinated me right from my childhood.  I gained a deep passion for Astronomy and aspired to do research in it. I always wondered at the Universe and endeavored to understand its history and evolution. Despite my interest in astronomy, things didn't work well and I became an engineer.  I completed B.Tech, followed by M.Tech in Digital Electronics and Communications.  I then got selected to work at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).  Even though I was enjoying the benefits of the IT sector, my desire to become an astronomer didn't fade away.  And one fine day, I  decided to take up a career in astronomy.  This was however not an easy task.  I was aware of the intricacies in this changeover and took it as a challenge. Since I didn't have a Physics background, I joined classes in a Physics institute to learn advanced physics, meanwhile continuing working at TCS.  I later grabbed an opportunity to assist Dr. Najam Hasan and Dr. Priya Hasan, at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India.  If not for them, I would not have been in this position today.  I later applied for Ph.D in the US and chose to study at RIT.  I got to work with one of the best advisors Dr. Chris O'Dea and Dr. Stefi Baum.

The journey was long, but I am happy that I finally achieved what I always wanted to be.  I have started this blog to reach out to all such students who dream to become an astronomer.
